Never end your mail with - Thanks in Advance

This is the common trend which you might be encountering with , people ending their mail with " Thanks in advance" and we also use the same. I find this trend bordering on offensive.
What do we mean to say when we use this phrase ? Thanks is an expression of gratitude for the work someone has done for you. But in the world of email, till the time they have opened your mail , they have not done the particular work for you.
Another problem with this phrase is it implies that your obligation to say thank you is done and you don’t need to express gratitude after the person actually does what you have asked them to do. It is another way you shortcut the interaction and make the receiver feel left out.

Instead we should use, I would be grateful...or...many thanks for considering the request...etc..
