Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan : My Contribution

#1 Postby ANKITSHAH » Wed Dec 17, 2014 4:18 pm

On 2nd October,2014,the world saw a brighter side of India when Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the nationwide cleanliness campaign, the 'Swachh Bharat Mission' or 'Clean India Campaign' from the Valmiki Basti in New Delhi .During the launch, Mr.Modi asked India's 1.25 billion people to join the 'Swachh Bharat Mission' and promote it to everyone.
Primarily India is also primarily known for its slums and poverty where majority of the people lack the etiquettes to keep the city clean. The vision of the Prime Minister was to engross the concern for uncleanliness in every Indian. Uncleanliness leads to unhygienic conditions which increase the diseases across the condition. So he primarily focused to eradicate the root cause of it which is to make the country clean. Giving credit to previous governments, Mr. Modi applauded the work done by previous government for environment cleaning. He greeted all of them for the Swachh Bharat mission and asked to treat it beyond politics. He said the mission is inspired by patriotism and not politics.
One important aspect which we should look into this mission is the root cause of it. People in India litter a lot because of two main reasons. Firstly there is no specific law in India which restricts the people to litter and disposing waste in public places. This is the primary reason which incurs the habit of people to urinate and spit everywhere they find convenient. This has contaminated the air and water we consume and hence is also polluting our health. This highlights the 2nd root cause: the attitude of people. There are more than 1 billion people in India, so the little waste disposed by each of them is actually ultimately ends up in a huge heap of waste. This attitude of the people needs to be changed for this awareness should be spread amongst the people. Until the people realize the waste and the littering done by them it would be very difficult to control the spread the garbage.
I have always been in favor of spreading awareness for not creating the wastes. During school days I as a part of NSS, I had visited many slums to apprise them of the consequences of spreading wastes. I have not done a very premiere job till now, but have a series of avenues which I can address at my level to make swatch bharat campaign successfully. I along with my 4 friends am fully determined for the swatch bharat mission. We have planned four events in a time frame of three months to enforce the mission.
First event is we have talked to some public schools, where we would give weekly lectures to the primary students about not spreading wastes. The lecture would cover different aspects like how can the clean they home from dirt, not to use plastic bags, etc. The primary idea behind this is if the children are aware and of it they would make their family members ware of it and the message will spread them.
The second event would be to assist some of the hospitals in cleaning facilities. I have observed that in my town there are some government hospitals which are not taken well care of and there is a lot of garbage piled up nearby the hospitals. When we asked the reason for this, the officials told us that they do not get much funds for appointing the workers daily and clean the wastes. This heap of garbage has a detoriating effect on the patients of hospital. They polluted air that they inhale worsens their health condition. This is a very crucial matter but the bad part it is overlooked by the government. So, we would put this matter to the municipal commission and are hoping for an immediate action from them.
The third event would deal with helping he cleaners who clean the roads every morning. We have already talked to the cleaners and have learned that one of the most difficult things for them is to roll the heave vehicle which carries the garbage to a long distance everyday. Besides decreasing their efficient, this also have an effect on their health. We have talked to the municipal commission of my town and they are in a discussion to align the vehicle with a bicycle to help those cleaners to carry it easily for farther distances.
The last event is to go to a nearby slum named “jarsiguda” and help observe the methodology of people to dispose the waste. We believe that we can improvise them, only when are ware about what their habits. After we have a fair idea of it, we would create awareness about how to improve on those habits with the help of NGOs. We would also approach a few opinion leaders of the slum who would make the people assemble together for the sessions.
These four events in a short span of three months would really be a challenge for me and my friends, but we have pull up our socks and are all ready and determined for the Swatch Bharat Abhiyan. Doing this would set a benchmark for my town and I believe it would encourage the youths of my town to for the spread the awareness. I have been planning the events since 20 days and am hopeful that this would really help my town and my country. Amen. :)
