On April 22nd every year, Earth Day is celebrated in over 192 countries. The tradition of celebrating Earth Day started in the year 1970. In U.S. the first Earth Day was started amid environmental concerns and discontent regarding war in Vietnam among the youth of the nation. After a major oil spill in Santa Barbara in the year 1969, groups of environmentalists came together, and organized a protest to create awareness about environmental issues. The movement was a huge success with over 20 million people participating to show their support for the cause. In the year 1990, Earth Day became a global event being celebrated by 141 countries, according to the Earth Day Network. That number grew to 184 by the year 2000.
Environmental issues also concern businesses, as businesses exist in the society, and both their interests are intertwined. When assessing the external environment to measure how favorable a country is to start a business, the country's ecological environment is also taken into consideration along with its political environment.
