Re: Are Social Networking Sites Addictive?
Everything has it's own pros and cons. The same is with Social Networking. In today's era, social networking sites are being used the most, be it for communication with new person or finding a new job. I agree with the fact that social networking is addictive but we are sensible enough to dodge ourselves through this addiction and use this addiction for the betterment of ourselves.
Re: Are Social Networking Sites Addictive?
Yes they are. There have been scientific proofs that kids in the age gap of 12-20 are highly addicted to social networking website. Since the launch of facebook, the numbers are rising exponentially. The average hours spent by an individual on these websites are astonishingly high. Yes, social networking website are useful in many ways but the addiction is one of its biggest negatives. It has become a necessity to curb down the hours spent by the kids on these websites as it is affecting their growth. The method can be difficult, but is definitely the need of the hour.

Yes social networking sites are addictive and there is no 2 ways about this. People spend hours on facebook, linkedin etc. Now a days not only youth but people in 50's and grand parents also have a facebook account and they keep them busy and alone rather than spending time with people and this is the reason why people are having a disorder called "Internet Addiction Disorder" which means high usage of internet and sitting in social media for long might impair people's performance at work, in school and in family relationships. Sociologists and psychologists have been exploring the impact of social networking on real world relationships, especially marriage, and some have doubts whether high usage of social media is a reason for divorce.
But it's hard to tell when fondness for an activity becomes a dependency and crosses the line into a damaging habit or addiction. Does spending 3 hours a day on Twitter reading random tweets from strangers mean you're addicted to Twitter? How about five hours? You could argue you were just reading headline news or needed to stay current in your field for work.

As per my experience, in earlier days I was using social networking sites for chatting and surfing purpose. But when I came to know that instead of wasting our time in chatting , we can use these sites in our value addition purpose. So I started following the knowledgeable site, news pages. And I started reading articles on these sites. So which helps me in updating myself in current affairs and information. So my point is that social networking sites are addictive but we can use that sites for value addition process in our career. It depends on how the person thinks towards these sites.

Yes social media sites are addictive but they are also the best way to network with people, if utilized optimally. By optimally I mean, that these sites are designed keeping in mind every possible aspect of communication, like, through pictures, videos, text messages, etc., but what we have to keep in mind is that the content to communicate will only come when we do something constructive other than interacting on these sites.
Social Networking Addiction is a phrase sometimes used to refer to someone who spending too much times using Facebook, Twitter and other forms of social media—so much so that it interferes with other aspects of daily life.

well, this topic is in debate for a very long time. According to me, it is YES. By nature social networking site are addictive, just like a cigarette and alcohol. But one good thing is that unlike cigarettes and all it has potential benefits, if used in a proper way. There are many advantages like, it connects people from distant parts of the world, keeps you updated about your friends and even many educational pages are there to follow on like current affairs, news etc. Finally It is up to the individual to get addicted to it or make benefit out of it. Like any other technology product, social networking is a double edged knife.

Sudha,a housewife called her seventeen year old daughter Kavita, who was in her room busy on Facebook. On her repetitive calling Kavita didn't answered because she is highly addictive to Facebook.Yes,social networking sites are very addictive.Addictions is in everyone of us like addiction of smoking, drinking, sex etc.So we can't ignore this addiction which is slowly penetrating and making our society hollow like a termite does to wood. This addiction of social media is very commonly found nowdays in youngsters who are the sole representative of this kind of addiction.Youngsters of the age group between fifteen to twenty three years are more susceptible to this threat.

Nowdays teenagers are so engrossed in different sites which also include websites which are not allowed for people below eighteen years of age.Due to this the youngsters are watching a lot of things on the Internet that are not good for them which includes erotic videos. This creates a sense of addiction in the minds of teenagers who are sitting in front of their laptops for continuous six to seven hours.A lot of teenagers are seen using dating sites on the Internet so as to attract girls.Social networking sites are more used as a dating and love sites rather than a social connectivity site.A lot of teenagers are viewing websites that offer illegal content, which is pure addiction.
So well, the Internet of things is creating an addiction in the minds of the people.Well this is addiction and it has penetrated deep into the minds of the people. We have to change the mindset of the people and specially the youngsters to solve this problem.

Nothing is addictive unless you surrender to that. If you can master your monkey mind then you can come out of all addictive things in life.
There are many things which lures to do so. If you are strong enough to withstand to your thoughts, moral and ethics no worldly things can be addictive.
If you can't, then problem is within you.

Re: Are Social Networking Sites Addictive?
YES. Social Networking sites are psychologically addictive. A like on Facebook, comment on status, a pin or a repin on Pinterest, a new follower, retweet on Twitter are forms of reinforcement (maybe positive or negative reinforcement depending what is retweeted, commented or repined) that drive engagement on networking site. We access these sites even when we really do not have time just to look who has posted, commented on my status. It’s just like that we are giving more importance to these sites. These sites waste a lot of time.
