IPL - Does advertising in IPL increases sales
Re: IPL - Does advertising in IPL increases sales
IPL - Indian Premium League of Cricket is around the corner and lot of advertising for the same is being done. Lot of advertisers are expected to advertise in it. Yes, i really think it is worth to spend so much money on ads in IPL as every age group of audience watches the match and advertising in IPL can help the advertisers because this game is seen by the whole nation and many people does not no about many products which are been sell in Indian market .So by doing advertising many people can know about the product and they can increase their sale and revenue .In IPL many sponsors money is involved and if the companies does their advertising they can get revenue out of it also. And if the companies does advertising in IPL they can be know among many audience and if their product is good then they can generate revenue out of it and advertising is the best tool to tell among the target audience so that their product is been seen by every one and if they go in market they can tell that i want that only which i have seen in IPL this reflects that they have done their correct advertising at correct place. Ex: When kumbh ka mela was organised then HUL's 'Roti Reminder' Lifebuoy was done .The country's largest consumer products firm has partnered more than 100 dhabas and hotels at the mela site to serve rotis that were stamped with "Lifebuoy se haath dhoye kya?" And that was the biggest ever sale they have achieved in soap. This is called correct adverting at correct place and their sales increased to the top level.....
Re: IPL - Does advertising in IPL increases sales
As we all know cricket is not only a sport but it is a religion in India , people in India are mad for cricket and cricketers are not less than god for them.. any company would love to advertise their product in IPL and I don't think in there is any other TV show in India has viewers more than IPL , that is the reason why advertisement in IPL is so expensive which any one cannot afford..
Now the question arises "it is worth to spend so much money on ads in IPL as there is a complete mix of set of people who see the matches"
I would say , yes it is worth to spend so much money on ads in IPL because by giving advertisement at one place you are getting millions of viewers which is the objective of any advertiser/ company.. some time even you find companies dealing in B2B segment giving their advertisement in IPL just for their brand image because every one knows how expensive is IPL for advertisement, hence only a good brand can advertise there..

It is said that India has only two religions - Cricket & Cinema. Anything happening in either is noticed by everybody in India. IPL is a platform where both cricket and cinema meet. The uncertainty associated with cricket & the glamour of cinema has made the IPL, the best property for advertisers to catch the attention of the customers. Because of the mass appeal that IPL gives it has proved to be most effective place for various big advertisers like Vodafone, Canon, DLF etc.
But well yes its also very costly alternative. Hence companies should take special care on the ensuring that the ads are relevant to the environment. For ex. recently Oreo created a buzz with just a small tweet with the content "You Can Still Dunk In The Dark" when blackout happened at the super bowl. This campaign from Oreo has proved that its not how much you spend but also how you use the context which matters to get the best out of your advertisements.

Yes ! I see a worth in for companies to advertise in IPL and it really works a lot ..
Also I have many live examples for that -for e.g . as during my internship with Bisleri International Private Limited, I have seen Bisleri Vedica was on the few mineral waters which was advertised and was available for sale .. and results were outstanding ..
Not only this, I have seen that at IPL customer really get Brand friendly and TOMA really works ..
Taking a new example - if two person start talking about IPL and third suddenly comes and asks on which topic was discussion going on, its for sure any one of the two would say PEPSI IPL ..
This the Worth, that Pepsi is on the mouth of everyone during IPL ..
Also I have seen many sporty products & energy drinks are advertised during IPL and I feel its the best time and strategy for companies to advertise ..
Along with this I agree with Kalpit that its the complete set of people who see the matches, taking this strong point forward I would say that advertising in IPL is also sector specific .. For say any company selling ERP solution would definitely not advertised there but for companies selling youth oriented sporty merchandise, its the best place for them to advertise ..
Not only this I would say one should see IPL as a game not as a platform of advertising, but if advertising during IPL gives good return to companies then its definitely a worth for companies to advertise in it ..

IPL has proved itself as biggest launching pad for consumer durable and electronics. DLF got a very good brand recognition because of IPL, its true that each and every company can not get benefit out of it but most of the companies get huge advantage using IPL platform.
Small mobile company like LAVA and Carbon have established themselves in market using IPL, Aircel was having good presence in south but now Aircel is accepted as national Telecom Brand. I would say advertising in IPL could be very good Branding exercise..after that lot depend on your product quality and market acceptability.
In India people worship cricket and sales is related to people sentiments, since recently we have white washed Ausis it will have huge impact as people are high on emotion and they will have lot of impulse buying for their IPL team merchandise.
This year Pepsi has taken parent sponsorship from DLF and I am quite sure they will promoting soft drink and snacks very aggressively as summer is also approaching. To my best knowledge specific sectors like telecom, consumer durable, electronic and FMCG are best gainers using IPL.
