Lead generation is the marketing process of stimulating and capturing interest in a product or services to enhance sales. It is the process to collect information about the persons who are targeted for developing sales pipeline.
The lead generation process has evolved over the time, earlier it was considered mere a method to create awareness and identify the people who seem to be interested in the product or service, but now the prospects are served with all the product information they need and are left to make the decision, the modern lead generation process begins much earlier than before. The social media, educational webinars, searches help the marketers to find what their prospective customers are looking for and then offering them the required solution.
Unlike the earlier scenario where businesses focused on collecting information about the prospect, current market seeks to gain information about the needs of prospective buyers. So the lead generation is win-win for both buyer and seller, the buyer is able to ask for information from several businesses that offer the product and services that they are looking for and select the best possible one and the seller gets an opportunity to proffer their products and services to someone who seems to be interested.
It is prima-facely thought that social media plays and major role for lead generation but a recent study shows that 78% respondents considered email as the most used channel for generating leads, social media played a minor role.
