Ability to lead and ability to manage are complementary skills. It''ll be big mistake to assume that managing is any way less important than leading. Managing is science..hence forms part of explict knowledge domain. Leaders may possess some born intrinsic qualities. But leadership related skills can be learnt by one in the midst of life. Leadership can be learnt through experince...like by touching fire you exprience about heat. Leadership skill is yet in tacit form. Hence, effective transfer of skill becomes difficult.

A good leader is a good manager, but a good manager is not necessarily a good leader. Leading is more strategic than managing, and one of the most important differences between the two is that a leader has to have followers who believe in him and follow him, not out of obligation, or hierarchy, but because of his individual traits. A manager has to manage the resources of the company to the best of his abilities, and utilize those resources to get the best results, in terms of productivity and cost efficiency. Whereas a good leader has to form a vision that his followers are willing to commit to, people play a more important role in the success of a leader as without their support the leader's vision would never come to fruition.

A leader is one who does things his way and asks his followers to follow his way but a manager is one who lets his subordinates take whatever way they want to take, given the roads lead to the same destination within the desired time and with the help of limited resources.
Managers are usually good leaders but the converse is seldom true.
Managers are more proficient in handling crisis than leaders are. Leaders adhere to their principles and are staunch believers in their tenets of work unlike managers who change their methods as per the circumstance.
Managers are therefore more suitable recruits to organizations than leaders.

Leaders Or Manager

I personally believe leading in a democratic way and managing in a systematic way can lead any company to reach to a level of success. A leader can be effective only if he is a great manager , however vice versa is not true. It is important to learn how to manage people , system and everything in association with an organisation. Only if a leader is aware of the needs of his manager , organisation he can lead in a thoughtful way. It is important to communicate with your employees for better efficiency and greater effectiveness. Mahatma Gandhi was a great leader , but he was also an excellent manager who knew how to manage the dilemmas and the criticalities. A leader is the one who leads the way , motivates his followers and gives them an inspiration to achieve best in their life. However , a manager is the one who helps in execution of all the ideas, motivation and inspiration. Hence to conclude with it is important to have a great leadership skills along with an excellent managerial skills

Leaders and managers are not exactly same.
Because leaders are born where managers will be made by providing training.
Leaders has the following qualities:
they will be not made,
they don't follow anybody and they cannot accept anybody superior to them
They have the power of convincing the people,
they have the power to motivate the people,
they will always innovative etc.,.

While managers has these qualities:
they will be trained to do following work,
they work under their superior,
their goal is self growth and at the same time organization growth too,
they may convince people and very hard to motivate the people,
they always do the the things which was already done by somebody etc.,.

Remember one thing A LEADER CAN BECOME A MANAGER BUT A MANAGER CANNOT BECOME A LEADER.

People consider leader and manager the same. But, there is a lot of difference between them. Manager plans and organises, whereas leader inspires and motivates his team members. Leader handles all the innovation of ideas part whereas a manger handles all the administrative part. Leader develops all the innovative things, whereas the manager has the responsibility to develop the innovations implemented by the leader. A leader focuses on the people of the organisation, whereas a manager focuses on the structure and systems working in the organisation. The manager thinks from short term perspective whereas a leader thinks from long term perspective. A manager has control in his hands whereas a leader has trust of the people of the organisation in his hands. The manager asks how and when whereas the leader asks what and why?? A leader is the one who originates, who starts something new whereas the manager imitates and follows him. A leader does right things whereas the manager does things right.

Leaders can be said as a broader term then the manager. Leaders do not only perform the work within the management time frame but they have a calibre to handle the problem effectively and efficiently. Managers work within the consult of the top management and do not add anything extra to there task and target. Leaders have an overall thinking towards achivement of the goals and objectives which is narrow in Managers. Leaders perform different tasks at different point and whereas manager performs tasks differently.

Leaders and managers are completely different personality...Some of the differences between them are:

>Leaders are Born..Managers can be Made..
>Leaders Have individual thinking..Managers follow company mission vision
>Leaders work for benefit of Followers..Managers also work for benefit of individuals so that they can achieve company goal together
>Leaders do different things...managers do things differently...
>Leaders have charisma...Managers have authority

These are some of the major differences between Leaders and Managers :)
