Air India is cutting costs by shutting some of its foreign and local offices. It has already shut 23 of its booking offices in various parts of the country. Minister of State for Civil Aviation Mahesh Sharma released informed the Lok Sabha, in a written reply that the decision to close offices has been taken with the intentions to control costs and reduce expenditure. Mr. Sharma also added that very few customers used the services of these booking offices, since most people book through agents.
Within the country as many as 23 offices have been closed down, some of these offices were located in Darjeeling, Surat, Allahabad, Agra, Kanpur, Leh, Mysore, Udaipur, Amritsar, Dehradun and Trichur. A decision has also been taken to close down offices in Cairo and Tehran. However offices at Los Angeles, Washington and Amsterdam will continue to function even though Air India does not have any flights to these locations, as it intends to cater to Indian ethnic population,business travelers and tourists.
