It definitely helps the firm, there are two types of viral marketing campaigns when we talk of viral marketing, an apt example of a high production value viral marketing would be Volvo's Epic Split campaign, featuring 'Jean Claude Van Damme' doing splits between two trucks driving in reverse, this campaign went viral overnight and now the you tube video has over 76 million views. This campaign had the star power, an excellent soundtrack, and most importantly it combined all the elements to correlate values such as integrity and reliability to Volvo trucks.

The other type of viral marketing campaign doesn't need high production values, all it needs is an idea, the consumers do the rest of the work. An example of such viral marketing tactic would be Starbucks and various coffee houses mispronouncing the names of consumers in an obvious fashion on the coffee cups. After seeing their names spelled in absurd ways, the consumers take pictures of those cups and post them online, this way the products and the brand name spreads through social media platforms, potential consumers take a look at these products and if they find what is inside the cups appealing then they go out and buy the products.

Viral marketing is basically doing aggressive marketing online, so that the news of a new product spreads virally into the market. people should come to know about viral marketing. This can be done through online marketing and also through traditional marketing strategies. Viral marketing helps in business because the marketing is fast than other marketing strategies. Consumers come to know about the product fast and quickly. We can do marketing on social media sites and promote the product. Many organisations opt for viral marketing and they do it when they have a new product to launch.

Viral marketing is defined as such marketing in which with the help of the existing social networking sites the comapnies and organisation tries to achieve more brand awareness among the consumers and the masses. And hence , the internet is the best media through which a product can be advertised or marketed . It basically includes marketing through the vidoes or the e books or the flash videos on mobiles etc. The main aim of the marketers to use viral marketing is to spread the viral message at every mobiles and internet sites and games etc which attain and attract the individuals attention towards it. Hence, it helps in increasing the customer base for the organisation, thereby increasing the profit for the oragnisation and goodwill in the market.

Investopedia explains Viral Marketing as, Internet advertising or marketing that spreads exponentially whenever a new user is added. Viral marketing assumes that as each new user starts using the service or product, the advertising will go to everyone with whom that user interacts... :P
An example of viral marketing is Hotmail, which offers free web-based email. Each time a user emails someone, there is an embedded advertisement to the recipient to sign up for a Hotmail account. While the practice was much more widely used in the early to mid-2000's as new internet businesses were being created in extreme numbers, it is still common among internet based business-to-consumer (B to C) companies.

The principle behind Viral Marketing is that it encourages individuals to pass on a marketing message to others. The advantage of getting individuals to pass on a marketing message is obvious i.e., these people will become your marketing team, and do it for free.. :)

In order for a viral marketing email to be successful the design of the Message and Incentive are very critical. The 'idea' of an incentive may be perfect (e.g. 'We'll give people free advice on how to behave in job interviews') but if your viral campaign does not communicate the incentive, and its benefits, effectively enough, you may as well not have bothered. An ineffectively communicated incentive is no incentive at all.

There are several Big Companies also who believe in Viral marketing, some of them are AUDI, NIKE, RAY-BAN,HONDA etc..
There are many benefits to making viral marketing videos and these companies obviously have capitalized. Not only are they easy to make, but they are cheap. They also use the internet to market, which can be less expensive than placing ads on TV. If you have a team of creative individuals who can come up with original viral videos, then you will definitely succeed. The key is to capture the shock/wow factor of the audience.
