Cold calling is traditionally an early stage in the selling process. Cold calling typically refers to the first telephone call made to a prospective customer. More unusually these days, cold calling can also refer to calling face-to-face for the first time without an appointment at commercial premises or households. Cold calling is also known as canvassing, telephone canvassing, prospecting, telephone prospecting, and more traditionally in the case of consumer door-to-door selling as 'door-knocking'.Cold calling is an important stage and technique in the selling process. Cold calling abilities are also useful in many aspects of business and work communications outside of sales activities and the selling function.Good cold calling - performed properly and not as merely an indiscriminate 'numbers game' - is a fundamental and highly transferable capability, whose basic principles are found in the behaviours and techniques of all great entrepreneurs and leaders.Successful cold calling - including the effectiveness of methods and techniques - essentially relies on your own attitude towards cold calling.

* Before doing a call one has to plan to whom he will call? What all might be the questions he might ask the prospect? and the most important one what all information should be provided to the prospect.
* Do some market research on the type of companies to focus. This will give you an advantage of being able to talk about their business and their needs.
* One should be innovative, respectful, enthusiastic and honest through out the calling process.
* One should craft a good script to impress the prospect and and make sure that he listens to it.
* Its better to listen first and then interpret from the prospect point of view  , rather then acting as a biased self centered sales person.
* One can connect every cold cold call into warm calls by sending and email to the prospect before the call.

~~ :) :)
 Goal Oriented:
The purpose of a cold call is to set an appointment to make the pitch. It's about getting the chance to make the sale.
Market Research.
Try to find out as much as you possibly can about the company or individual you're going to call in advance. This gives you the huge advantage of being able to talk about their business and their needs when you call them.

To Increase Your Sales..Visit..

 Opening Statement.
This practice will enable you to organize your thoughts before calling, and helps you to avoid common mistakes in the opening that would give the person you're calling the chance to terminate the conversation. For instance, you should never ask, "Is this a good time to talk?" or "How are you today?" Don't read your opening statement into the phone, but use it as a framework to get the cold calling conversation off to a good start.

 Prepare a Script
Lay out the benefits of your product or service and the reasons your prospect should buy. Write out possible objections and your answer to them.
It’s not that you'll be reading your script word for word when you call, but that you've prepared the framework of the cold call in advance.

 Ask for an Appointment.
Say, "Would Wednesday at 11 a.m. be a good time to meet?" instead of saying, "Can I meet with you to discuss this next week?"

  While cold calling, Be pleasant to whoever picks up the phone. Develop strategies to get the gatekeeper on your side. Sometimes asking, "I wonder if you could help me?" will help you get the information you need, such as the name of the right person to talk to or when the best time to contact the prospect is. Learning the names of gatekeepers and being friendly when cold calling helps, too.
And above all, practice, practice, practice. While cold calling may never be much fun for you, you can get better at it, and the more you practice, the more effective a sales tactic it will be. The people who want to do business with you are out there - but you have to let them know about you first.
