Targets are needed because the firm has to draw out the best from its employees. Without a benchmark to hold themselves against, most people would never reach their potential. If there's no benchmark, then the level of performance derived from employees would equal to what they perceive as satisfactory performance, and it would vary for every person. Judging performances of employees working on the same level would become very difficult as their performances would no longer be relative.

The ideal strategy for a firm when setting standards and giving employees targets, would be to give them challenging targets, that are not too easy for them to achieve, but they shouldn't also be impossible, as impossible targets would leave the employees frustrated and stressed.

Oh yes...without sales targets, a company would be like a boat without a rudder.
Sales figures serve the following purposes:
(I) Sales figures tell you the status of your company. How well your products are selling and where.
(ii) these figures are of immense importance to managers as they carve their marketing and operational strategies accordingly.
(iii) sales figures are also important for designing pricing strategies. These figures gives you an idea as to what should the ideal price range of your product be?
(iv) sales targets give marketers the impetus to strive harder. Without a target its never easy to work.
(v) it also helps in determining the perks and the incentives to be given to employees. These figures provide a measure of their performance.
So yes, sales figures are very much needed for the growth of the business

To be focused, one needs a target. It gives us a direction and helps us plan our strategies accordingly. It helps us think about our business in a more structured manner. A target helps a team to channelize their efforts and hard work in the right direction and form a bench mark to achieve their goals.

To have a good road-map to achieve a goal, a target must be set. You should know what you aim to achieve and having a number in your mind definitely helps. Therefore, I totally agree with the need of a target in Sales as it enhances performance and increases productivity.

i dont think so target must be there because TARGET PRESSURE leads to create such kind of pressure on sales people that it can lead to make bad image of company in front of customers ....

how ???

because any how every customer is doing sales ..

so target pressure some times can be overlapped by sales person and can be seen by customer ....

that overlaps the benefits of the company by target pressure .

Targets set are the benchmark to check the performance of the employee in the organization and in sales, targets are very much required to keep a check on the performance of the sales personnel. Other than this, by putting targets one knows that this is the bare minimum one has to achieve. It gives a direction and as without targets sometimes employees get out of track. This also helps to organization to achieve the organizational targets also. So, yes sales targets are really needed for an effective sales team.

Yes, Sales target is really needed.Targets engage our mind to think in a more efficient and controlled manner to achieve the same.Targets actually push a person to perform his level best..By setting targets, we can actually analyze whether we are capable of doing the same in that period of time or not..If we are not achieving then what all the steps should be taken to achieve more.Targets shows true picture of the person and the organization.
Organizational goals and success only depends on sale target.Performance related incentive also motivates the sales person to achieve more.

Yes, it is true that sales targets are really needed. Sales targets helps in the controlling part which helps in measuring the results with the planned activities. Sales targets help in achieving the results much faster. You know what the target is so you work accordingly. When target is a big number then there is work on pressure. And when the sales target number is not big, then there is no work on pressure and you work lightly without too much of pressure. Sales targets are really needed so that the organisation can know how they are growing and developing. When sales targets are achieved, then the company can ensure that it is growing and on the other hand when sales targets are not achieved then the company can find out the mistakes that they are making and then try to overcome them. Sales targets help us to find out our mistakes and the loopholes also and how to overcome the mistakes and fill in the loopholes also.

According to my opinion target for every sales person is required. Because without any goal the person cannot perform well and it is tough to calculate his/her performance also.
If the sales person have the particular target then he/she try to reach that because they have the goal to reach and they try to make plan
and strategies to reach that particular target.
Some time sales manager target the sales very high so that sales person can may try to reach minimum of that.

Yes definitely, I think the SALES TARGET is very crucial for any organisation. It helps in deciding the future growth of the comapnies. It helps in sorting out that what the comapny or the organisation wants to achieve - Is it the good profit ??? or increase customer base ??? or Goodwill in the market. It helps the employees work in one direction towards achieving the target of the organisation effectively and efficiently.

Sales targets is needed as it is important for the organisation ti set some bench mark which is required to be achieved by the emplyees otherwise they would be working in a slow manner. There won't be any competitve feeling and the zeal to perform the work within the time frame and achive the targets.

So every organisation should have a sales target .

Sales target:-
Yes it’s needed for every sales person. Sales target gives a direction to perform more and more, and if we start reaching target, we will be more active and we will put more and more efforts to complete more deals within less time also. If we don’t have goal or target definitely we will lose our momentum. If know our target we will plan accordingly and we will make an action plan also, that will helps us to increase our potential levels. If there is a target then we will check our performance every week and month, which helps a lot to us. A target always helps us to perform in effective and efficient manner
