India is a country where cricket is followed like a religion and is admired by all. The entire family and friends get united for a game of cricket. In every street you will find kids holding a bat and ready to play the game. Every person sometime or the other in is life must have surely played this sport. Such is the craze in India.
However, I feel that other sports should also be given equal weightage. There are sports that are completely overlooked which is not a good sign for the country. Being a cricket fan myself, i definitely feel India has a lot of hidden potential in other sports as well and something needs to be done to promote it.

In India, thinking about sports is equivalent to thinking about cricket. Cricket has over powered all sports in India. However, with the likes of Saina Nehwal, Sania Mirza making India proud worldwide, sports like tennis and badminton are also becoming popular. Baichung Bhutia is trying to make footbal popular in our country. With so many stars rising, other sports are also beginning to get a share of interest in people's mind.

Sports in India : the first thing that comes to anybody's mind is cricket. It is a religion here, and certainly the God being Sachin Tendulkar. The love, the craze, the enthusiasm seen in this sport is seen in none other. But is it right? Well, on one side it is, on the other it certainly isn't. Where on one hand cricket binds the people of all religion, all caste , all creed together, the other sports face a set back. Ask anyone, what is the national sport of India, Astonishingly, Hockey will be a rare answer. We have forgotten our national sport. Sports like Kabaddi, which were born in India are seldom to see.

Although other sports like Tennis and Football are gaining pace in India, but still it is cricket that rules. All sports freak would want to play Indian cricket team some day. A recent story of how India's Ice hockey team were not being able to participate in the tournament due to lack of fund, is something to be given a thought to. Yes, giving a sport importance ain't bad, but ignoring others for it is a set back to sport, and to the entire nation.

Efforts should be made to promote all kinds of sports. Indians are no way behind the sport strong countries. There will definitely be a day when India will be participating in footbal world cup and getting Gold in various Olympic events.

If anyone wants to talk about sports in India, only cricket comes in mind. Not even Hockey rings the bell, which is the national sport of the country. Also in advertisements, only cricketers like M S Dhoni, Virat Kohli, Sachin tendulkar, etc. were seen promoting products. IPL is promoted so much in this country. Even though all the medals that India won in all the olympics is not from cricket, still cricket is the only sport in the country. Not even government provides facilities for sports other than cricket. In near future I foresee that cricket ministery is not a impossible task.
