Sales, Marketing and promotion are all different. But however, these terms are used interchangeably. Marketing is all about getting noticed whereas sales is closing the deals. Marketing is basically making aware to the consumers regarding the product. Sales is when the customer buys the product because of the marketing. Promotion is a part of marketing where you are promoting the product through different media channels. We all know the 4P's of marketing. Product, Price, Place and Promotion. Therefore, promotion is a part of the marketing strategy. Promoting creates the urge in the minds of the consumers to buy the product. All these terms are technically different and are applied differently.

Marketing activities include consumer research (to identify the needs of the customers), product development (designing innovative products to meet existing or latent needs), advertising the products to raise awareness and build the brand. The typical goal of marketing is to generate interest in the product and create leads or prospects. On the other hand, sales activities are focused on converting prospects to actual paying customers. Sales involves directly interacting with the prospects to persuade them to purchase the product. promotions include a variety of strategies designed to offer purchasers an extra incentive to buy, usually in the short-term. Examples of sales promotions include cents-off coupons, two-for-the-price-of-one sales and double coupons at the grocery store, all for a limited period of time. Hence Sales, Marketing And Promotion are three different things which should be taken separately.

The Difference between Sales, Marketing and Promotion is as under:

Sales is a process which involves the exchange of a product or a service against money. A sales is said to be successful when a Monetary benefit/Financial transaction is involved.

Marketing is a process of reaching out to the target potential customers and making them aware of the value and the qualities of a given product or a service. The basic aim of marketing is to make the potential customer aware about a product or service which could be converted into sales.

Promotion is a part of the marketing process which refers to advertising a product/convincing the target potential customers that a particular product is better than its counterparts available in the market which in turn helps the customer to make an informed buying decision and hence leading to sale.

Marketing consist of & 7P's :

Companies majorly use the first 4P's to build their strategy as these helps in figuring out what type of product is required, what should be the price range, where should they launch this product & what should be the promotional activities.

Marketing acts as a link between the people & the company.
Its an on going process, it dose not ends after the sales. Even after sales services are the part of marketing.

Sales is a one-to-one process where the only objective is to fulfill the target and generate revenue with the existing product.
