A typical goal of marketing is to generate interest in the product and to create demand. Marketing activities include:
Consumer research to identify customer needs
Product development - existing or latent innovative products designed to meet the needs of
Products and to increase awareness of the brand building advertising.
The increase in the price of products and services to long-term revenue.
On the other hand, sales is the paying by the customers to buy a product. Sales is involved in the interaction with prospects to convince customers to buy a product sold directly.
Marketing thus tends to focus on the general population (or, in any case, a large set of people) whereas sales tends to focus on individuals or a small group of prospects.

Selling is of the products and services. Its starting point is the production of goods & services where as in marketing ,starting point is to identify the target market to whom to market the product or service . Marketing focus on the customer needs where as selling focus on the product and its features. In selling ,the net profit is estimated from the profit through sales volume where as in marketing net profit is estimated through customer satisfaction.Selling is the process to covert the product into cash for the company in the short run.Marketing revolves around the customer needs.

Selling is apart of marketing. The major difference is. selling increases the revenue, marketing is an investment. however, both complete each other. marketing is done to create the awareness, pricing policies. promotions which ultimately helps in selling. But if you look at the trends, selling is not as easy as it is perceived. You have to show the value of the product, attributes, benefits and many more things due to increasing competition.

Marketing always changes where as the selling always is same. Marketing is huge term and selling is the one part of marketing. Selling is primarily the real time conversation between two or more people but marketing include the entire process from production to consumption of a product and brand. Marketing plays a major role in creating new channels/clients and maintaining the existing channels and this contributes to more sales. Selling involves making more sales so as to increase the company's revenues. Despite the difference, the two functions are dependent on each other and therefore a firm should form a system where the two functions are carried out together. Marketing is the planning, pricing, promotion, packaging, advertising and selling of any product or service. Selling is therefore only a sliver of the overall marketing of any product or service and therein lies the difference. Marketing is identifies appropriate prospects where as selling is proactive seeking of prospects
