A consumer segmentation is required so that people of similar tastes can be grouped together. As people preferences vary from one to another and no two same person has similar preferences, segmentation makes to easier for marketer to segment and target. The most common type of segmentation are geographic and demographic. Other types of segmentation includes psychographic and behavioral segmentation. Psychographic segmentation is segmentation based on activities, interestes and hobbies. Behavioral segmentation is segmentation on perception towards product. Normally, marketeer uses a segmentation within segmentation to segment.

Segmentation plays a vital role in the organization. It helps in increasing the sales and getting the brand name in the society. There are various types of Segmentation, They are:
1. Geographical segmentation
2. Demo graphical segmentation
3. Social and political.

1. Geographical segmentation: It represents based on the income level of the people and the area we choose to sell the products easily. Based on the income level we need to fix the price of the products. And we need to target the people to choose the product with low price.
2. Demo graphical Segmentation: It represents the product is suitable to whom based on the gender and their age group. Males, females, children' s, old aged ones. Here we need to concentrate in these area in order to increase the sales.

And later we need to think about social and political factors on the particular product.

Segmenting consumer market is important for the organization because it saves the time of the organization and also the effort.
If we did not choose the right target consumers then it effects not only the sales but also the growth of the organization.
Segmenting of consumer market should be performed on these basis:
1. Geographic

2.Demographic

3.Social or political

All these segments play major role. While choosing the target customers, we need to know that this particular of product will
suitable to which region or area. Next we have to check that t is useful for whom children, youth, old people, male or female etc.,.
Depending on this we have to select the area and region, either the area should be rural or urban.
Next we have to think about the social and political conditions about that particular region and have to check that whether the product will
be acceptable by the customers or not and have to advertise according to their culture.

Market is a large place consisting of different type of consumers and buyers. It is very important to segment your market and find your target market. There are different prospects under which you can segment consumer market.

1. On basis of geographic area: If your product caters to particular region or place, then you segment it on the basis of geographical area.

2. On the basis of Income: If your product is to high class particularly or low class particularly, then u segment the consumer market on the basis of their income.

3. Demographic segmentation: If your product caters to particular age, gender then it is on the basis of the demographic factors.

4. On the basis of tastes, preferences: If your product caters to particular segment which likes the your product type and quality, then you segment on the basis of tastes and preferences.

Its very important to divide the consumer market into different segments . As if not done so , it would lead to misused sales and inappropriate profits for the organisation. It helps in dividing the segment on the basis of area , income, benefits gained, gender etc. Some of the segmentation are:

1. GEOGRAPHIC SEGMENTATION which is segments as per the geagraphical area of the customers i.e a particular country or sector or climate etc.

2. DEMOGRAPHIC SEGMENTATION basically means segment as per the age or gender or income of the consumer .

3. BENEFIT SEGMENTATION means dividing the segments into as per those customers who seek some benefits from the product.
