Its a great news for India & Modi's government. The newly elected president defeated the dictator type government of Rajapakse being backed all small parties as joint opposition. Now India can breathe on the issue of Tamils in northern Sri Lanka. Now India can have a better bilateral relations with Sri Lanka and for the Indian Maritime forces as China was planning massive investment for its Army base in the coastal areas which will now be abandoned I guess.....Lets hope for the best.

Regime Change in Sri Lanka

#2 Postby Lal » Mon Jan 12, 2015 9:58 am

In Sri Lanka newly elected President Maitripala Srisena has been sworn in and his first overseas visit will be to India. Now India is expecting good relationship with new government which was not in the expected lines with the previous government under Mahindra Rajpakshe. The new President has announed that he will abolish the executive presidency by amending the constitution. It is expected that there will be devolution of powers which northern province of Sri Lanka wants from the new President.

Sri Lanka has released some detained fisherman which is a good sign in forging new partnership with India. China's increasing role in Sri Lanka has become matter of concern for India and now it is India who will play greater role in Sri Lanka.
