India has dropped to 66 in the latest Global Innovation Index, last year the position was 64.The index ranks 142 countries on their innovation capacity and efficiency, In the first edition of these rankings India was on 23 among 107 countries..but after that period it has been falling slowly, but steadily.
Although India performs much better from the regional perspective, it ranks among the top 20 in terms of efficiency of its innovation and is among the top 5 in Asia.According to this year rating India has done exceptionally well in some criteria, but the reverse has happened where the results are very bad..India has done well in Gross Capital Information, Investment in new business, computer and information services exports, creative good exports..
But some areas are responsible for India's low ranking, such as political stability, ease of starting business, school life expectancy, knowledge absorption and public-teaching ratio are the crucial factors for this low ranking..This years topper were Switzerland and Sweden followed by UK..they were also in the top ten last year.
