Bribery case : Micromax MD quits

Micromax founder and managing director Rajesh Agarwal today resigned from his post at the company a day after his arrest by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in a case of bribery. Agarwal and his associate Manish Tuli were arrested on Wednesday by CBI when they were allegedly giving bribe of Rs 30 lakh to the officials of North Delhi Municipal Corporation for regularisation of an unauthorised property,a banquet hall the two wanted to set up in Wazirpur in North set Delhi.Four government servants were also arrested along with the duo. Micromax Informatics Limited in an email statement said that Agarwal has stepped down from his duties and recused himself from the responsibilities to focus on the legal proceedings to clear his name of the alleged charges.The company also clarified that Manish Tuli,has no association with the company. Rajesh Agarwal was present in his personal capacity with Manish Tuli.

According to CBI, Rajesh Gupta, an employee of Delhi Development Authority, had introduced Agarwal and Tuli to the corporation officials. Thereafter, the bribe was collected on behalf of the engineers.The arrested included two officials of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, one official of Delhi Development Authority, the managing director at Micromax Informatics Ltd. Agarwal, and Tuli. The CBI has sought further police custody of the accused to unravel "the involvement of other government officials and private persons".An FIR has been filed against the seven under the IPC and the Prevention of Corruption Act. :?
